The arch should feel like it is under your arch, not beside it. Walk a few steps. If your foot slides forward and your toes touch the front edge, the sandal is too small or the wrong width.

Buckles should be snug enough to keep the sandal on, loose enough that you can wiggle your toes. If you can slide two fingers under the front strap, it is probably too loose. If the strap leaves a mark after ten minutes, it is too tight.
