Wear them for short periods at first — twenty minutes around the house, then a walk around the block. Don’t wear them for a full day of sightseeing right out of the box. The cork needs time to warm up and compress. The soft footbed skips most of this, but it also molds less over time.

Birko-Flor is the synthetic upper used on many Arizona models. It’s durable, easy to wipe clean, and vegan. It doesn’t stretch or soften the way leather does, so the fit stays consistent. Keep them out of direct sun for long periods. Leaving them on a hot dashboard or a sunny windowsill can dry out the cork and warp the footbed. If they get wet, let them air dry away from heat. Don’t put them in the dryer or use a hair dryer. That will crack the cork.

The straps can be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap. For leather, use a leather conditioner a few times a year. For Birko-Flor, just wipe. For suede, use a suede brush and avoid water. The buckles are metal and can be polished with a dry cloth if they dull.
